This session will provide an overview of the federal and Texas pricing transparency requirements for hospitals and other providers, including practical uses for contracting, potential impact on financial due diligence, compliance implications, and a Texas enforcement update.

Greg Etzel concentrates his practice on the representation of hospitals and other healthcare providers in a variety of complex legal transactions, regulatory litigation and compliance advice. Greg has pursued administrative litigation on behalf of his clients from the earliest stages of a regulatory challenge through final decision in federal court on a variety of federal payor reimbursement and other agency disputes. Greg regularly advises healthcare clients on a multitude of billing and payment compliance matters arising out of federal and Texas healthcare programs. Prior to returning to private practice in 2018, Greg spent five years in-house as the vice president of legal affairs at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), where he gained valuable experience and perspective implementing the advice he previously, and presently, gives from the outside.

Herd joined JTaylor in 2007 and has over 25 years of experience serving a variety of clients across multiple industries, particularly healthcare. His fields of expertise include valuation, healthcare revenue analysis, managed care, business planning and analysis, and capital planning. He also works with healthcare clients to assist with managed care contract analysis and negotiation. Herd’s list of clients includes entrepreneurs, large multi-hospital health systems and other hospitals, physician groups, and attorneys. After graduating from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, Herd went on to earn his Master of Business Administration at Southern Methodist University. He has worked for Texas Health Resources and Baylor Healthcare System, where he gained experience in managed care contract analysis, charge master standardization, and hospital front-end collections processes. Prior to joining JTaylor, Herd worked at Triad Hospitals, Inc., where he performed due diligence reviews, pro forma development, and valuation support for hospital and physician practice acquisitions. Herd is a member of the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts and is a Certified Valuation Analyst.
