Dr. Priya Ghelani completed her undergraduate education at the University of Texas at Austin and earned her medical degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She went on to complete her residency in Emergency Medicine at Jacobi/Montefiore in New York City, where she served as chief resident in her final year. After staying on as faculty at Jacobi, she returned to Texas to continue her academic and clinical career. Currently, Dr. Ghelani serves as core faculty at an emergency medicine residency program at an academic center in Texas. She has held national leadership roles through the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) and serves as a section editor for the OB/GYN section of Corependium. Her clinical interests include ultrasound and critical care. Her academic focus spans medical student education, reproductive health education with a focus on knowledge translation, and improving geriatric care in the emergency department through quality improvement initiatives. She is one of three physician members of the Doctor-Lawyer Alliance, which works to provide clear, accurate guidance for physicians and healthcare organizations in Texas caring for pregnant patients. She also holds a national leadership position within Access Bridge, an organization focused on improving reproductive health and health equity in emergency departments across the country. She was most recently grant-funded, along with Dr. Lauren Fine, to travel across Texas in the last two years to deliver education on early pregnancy complications to emergency medicine physicians. She is grateful to be supported by her husband, who is also a physician, and their two young sons.
