Session Overview
Sacred spaces are emerging sites for housing to address homelessness. The sites offer built-in opportunities for community integration, but also inherent challenges to a housing first philosophy. This panel presentation describes how partners in Charlotte, NC are preparing for Easter’s Home, on-site efficiency apartments for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness.

Lori Thomas is an Associate Professor of Social Work at UNC Charlotte and Executive Director of the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute, where she also directs the Charlotte Regional Data Trust. Lori has over 20 years of experience in affordable housing and homeless programming, research, and evaluation.

Ron Clark is a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist and Facilitator, a Wellness Recovery Action Plan Advanced Level Facilitator, a QPR Suicide Preventative Instructor, and a Mental Health First Aid Facilitator. Clark recently joined Camino Health Center as Community Services Manager and is a board member of Roof Above.

John Cleghorn is pastor of Caldwell Presbyterian Church. He is the author of Resurrecting Church: Where Justice and Diversity Meet Radical Welcome and Healing Hope (Fortress Press). His second book, stories of how churches are building affordable housing will be published by Westminster John Knox Press in 2024.

Kaedon Grinnell is the Chief Program Officer at Roof Above in Charlotte, NC where he oversees shelter, supportive housing & outreach/day services programming. He has worked in homeless services for over a decade, previously serving as Vice President of Programs at Project Renewal in New York City.

Joe Hamby is Director of Community Education at Roof Above, a comprehensive homeless service provider offering a spectrum of services including street outreach, day services, emergency shelter, and permanent supportive housing. Prior to his current role, Joe served Roof Above's emergency shelters and directed a transitional housing program.
